If your child has multiple ear tags or complex-shaped tags, the doctor may recommend the tags be removed under a general anesthetic to ensure your child’s comfort. The initial examination within the first 24 hours of birth is critical in determining newborn patients general well-being and identifying any red flags that may warrant further evaluation. A local anesthetic can be applied to the skin to reduce pain. White vaginal discharge (as seen around the hymen here) is extremely common in the newborn period. Infants with a simple ear tag not containing cartilage may be able to have the ear tag removed during their visit to the doctor’s office. These tags do not grow back after surgery. Your child will have a small scar, but will not require any further treatment. This procedure will avoid a small cartilage bump. They mostly occur, however, on the neck and underarms. Although typically painless, skin tags can appear anywhere on the body. Your child’s doctor will make a small incision around the base of the tag and cut the cartilage stalk several millimeters below the surface of the skin. What Are Skin Tags Skin tags are common noncancerous skin growths that extend out from the skin’s surface on a piece of tissue called a stalk, or peduncle. Therefore, the recommended treatment approach is to remove the ear tag by surgical excision. It shouldn’t lead to pain or bleeding, but an anal skin tag can become bothersome, itchy. However, this can leave a small bump at the site because there is cartilage within the base of the stalk. An anal skin tag appears as a piece of excess tissue around your anus or in the surrounding area. Some physicians will recommend tying a string around the ear tag to intentionally reduce blood flow until the tag falls off.
